This Dog Tag style pendant is handmade in Sterling Silver and inlayed with Fordite. Each inlay is hand formed and set through a meticulous process of grinding and polishing with various lapidary tools.
Due to the variation in natural materials, each inlayed piece will have a unique color and pattern, but will remain similar to our example pictured.
Fordite, also known as Detroit agate or Motor City agate, is old automotive paint which has hardened sufficiently over time allowing it to be cut and polished. It was formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint over-sprayed on tracks were vehicles were hand spray-painted. These tracks carrying vehicles would be used daily causing the enamel paint to be overlapped and baked numerous times. This process of painting vehicles has sense been automated making Fordite quite rare.

Pendant Bail: Originally hinged, will be welded shut to prevent pendant from falling off chain. We carry several chain options, the largest that fits in the bail is our "Sterling Silver Rounded Box Chain 2.5mm"
